Is AI now a baseline expectation in iGaming? Highlights from Sigma Euro-Med 2025

In September, Malta became the focal point for the iGaming and tech community as the prestigious SiGMA AIBC Euro-Med brought together innovators, industry leaders, and professionals from across the globe.

During the panel “Use Cases: AI Applications for iGaming,” Dr. Gege Gatt, CEO of EBO, delivered an insightful keynote that challenged traditional approaches to leadership and innovation in AI within the gaming sector. Joining him were industry experts Mark Flores Martin (CEO, XGENIA), Staffan Engström (Co-Founder & CEO, Fieldstream.AI), and Karl Schranz (CEO, E&S Group).

Together, they explored how AI and neuroscience-informed strategies are being put into action to enhance player safety, streamline operations, and unlock new opportunities for both operators and players. Here are the key highlights:

Practical Applications and Impact

The panel explored how AI is not just a technological novelty but a transformative tool that can:

  •  Enhance player experience through personalised gaming and predictive systems.
  • Improve safety via neuroscience-driven solutions and responsible gaming frameworks.

  • Optimise operations by unlocking efficiencies for operators while opening new opportunities for players.

The future of gaming isn’t about replacing people, it’s about amplifying their creativity and unlocking their full potential.

AI in iGaming: Leading the Way or Falling Behind?

A central question sparked debate: is AI now a baseline expectation, or does it remain a true differentiator in iGaming?

Mark Flores Martin emphasised the challenge of adoption, noting that “95% of companies fail to implement AI. The iGaming industry will see a wave of AI-adapted companies rising up and disrupting those who fall behind.”

Staffan Engström added perspective on the industry’s stage in the AI journey: “Unlike some other sectors, iGaming is just getting started. If you don’t act now, you risk being left behind.”

The discussion highlighted a clear message:

AI in iGaming is not just a tool, it’s a strategic differentiator. Companies that embrace it today are positioning themselves for the leaders of tomorrow.
